On June 24th Google announced the shutdown of 2 network sites – #1 Google Health and #2 Google Powermeters. Google had high hopes for these two services. The Product managers of the respective products tell us that these two services failed to attract more peoples’ interest and failed.
#1 – Google Health
The Google Health Service website is launched in May 2008. Google hoped to help people use this service to any computing device via a secure portal to access their medical records online, from any device.
Google Health, senior product manager Aaron Brown on Friday (June 24) said,
After several years of experience, we noticed that Google did not produce health effects we want. This service is limited to the application of tech-savvy patients and their caregivers, more recently, fitness and health enthusiasts use this service. However, we did not find a way to put this into the limited application of the health of millions of people…
Google Health portal site will be closed on January 1, 2012, but you can download the health data until January 1, 2013. After that, the Google Health data will be deleted.
#2 – Google PowerMeter or Google Meter
Google meter network service launched in February 2009, with which Google aimed to help consumers by displaying electricity consumption of their own family in their own computer programs in real-time tracking shown on iGoogle website. This tool extracts data from household smart meters, has been in California, Texas, Florida, India, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky and many other regions of Canada and the utility companies were tested.
Google green energy director Bill Weihl said,
Google meters help us to access and create a model showing the importance of and satisfaction. However, our efforts were not as fast as we hope to be widely used. Therefore, we decided to withdraw this service. Google meter data can be accessed by users till September 16, 201. Users can log in to your account to download their data and enter the “account settings” to export a CSV file.
Here at iGoogleWatchBlog, we’re putting together some simple steps on how to easily export your data from Google Health and Google PowerMeter, stay tuned for that!
Meanwhile, if you’ve used these to services, please do share your feedback!
